Category integrity linking

Hi,

I don’t know what to call this feature, but I was wondering if there was a way to control the listed items in a category drop down by creating a dependency on another category.

For instance, the contents of one categroy drop down would be filtered based on the selected category from another drop down.

Does that make sense?

Thanks, Mike. I’ll try that out. This functionality is important especially as Quantrix becomes a way for modelers to present dashboards. If one category dropdown contains categories excluded by the selection of another category, it impact usability.

Hello Vince,

You can’t control what is available for selection of items in the filter tray. I will add your vote for this request in our database.

However, you can control the collapsed / uncollapsed state of items based on values. Take a look at the attached model file. I have set up a custom filter that inspects the values and Matrix2, and either collapses or uncollapses the items in Matrix1 based on the Matrix2 cell values.

Mike,

Thanks for the help. Is it possible to constrain the display of categories in the filter tray based on a specified relationship to another category?

Thanks,
Vince

Yes – If you right click on a cell, choose Constrain Input. Then choose ‘Category Item Names’ and pick the category you want to base the list on. Then any additions, modifications or deletions to this category will show up on the list.

Hope this helps. Feel free to post again with any additional questions.
