Multiple instances of category in same matrix?

Hi, all!

I would like to create a matrix which has the same category across two dimensions. I am doing this to show the dependencies between the items in the category.

I would like to use the category in several places, and want to define the items in one matrix and then reuse the category for the purpose above and for others.

It does not seem possible to do this with linked categories, or even to have the same category on two axes of the same matrix. Am I missing something?

I know I can create a copy of the category in question and use that, but if I add anything I then have to add it in two places.

Thanks in advance.

Well, the formating of my diagram did not come out just right but I hope you get the idea.

MCashman,

As I understand your situation, you are trying to make a matrix that looks like this:

Dimension A
1 2 3 4 5
1 X
2 X
3 X
4 X
5 X

Dimension A

I have posted a work around that uses the datalink feature. Basically, you name your items in a matrix and use datalink to update the items in the categories of the target matrix (I called it “problem”). It seems to work. Let me know what you think.
