Text Display

Do others have a problem with the small and blurry text display in Quantrix? I would attach an example document but the new forum is not very intuitive when comes to inserting attachments. With larger monitors and the increased resolutions this is something that needs to addressed. The toolbar icons need to be larger also.

This is a typical text display in a Windows model under development. When manager’s see’s this there will be complaints about the blurry text. Quantrix is the only Windows program I have used in the past 10 years with a poor text display.

For once there’s a benefit to using the OSX version of Quantrix! :p To be honest Christopher the Quantrix screenshot you posted looks more legible, just much smaller. It could be that I’m viewing your pictures on my Mac Retina screen though…

I actually think what you’re seeing is that Quantrix is using a different, smaller and thicker font to display text on screen vs Excel, not that Quantrix is rendering them fuzzier per se.

Thank you for the feedback. There is a difference between how Java renders text on Windows and OS X – with OS X looking better. As you can probably surmise we are reliant on Java to render the fonts for us with mixed results. One of the things we can consider is ‘going native’ on the next release and doing our own font rendering code.

I also modified the forum to allow ‘document’ attachments (.docx, .xlsx etc) Thank you for your patience as we work out the settings in the new forum.

How? This forum should allow uploading doc files like the previous forum.

Could you post a screenshot JPG?

I’m using version 5.1.2 on Windows 7, 64 bit. It appears Quantrix displays text at about 70% of the equivalent in Excel and there is a noticeable difference in text clarity. I would upload an example but the new forum does not allow doc or docx files. The old forum allowed doc files.

Chris,
On which platform & versions do you notice this problem? I have not noticed any font clarity issues when running the Windows version of 5.1 and later. On the OSX version on my Macbook Retina, [b:3pvlpbzx]everything[/b:3pvlpbzx] was blurry but it seems to be fixed on 5.1.1 and 5.1.2.

Hi – I just fixed the forum permissions to allow attachments.

I concur that the display of Quantrix fonts etc. is not as sharp as when compared with other Windows applications. We are reliant on Java for this functionality and we plan to take a look at this with our next desktop release. If future versions of Java don’t improve the font display on the desktop then we will have to consider going ‘native’ for this functionality.

Thanks for the feedback.
