Data Import in Quantrix Modeler is a built-in feature that lets you pull two-dimensional data from databases, Google Sheets, Salesforce, text files, XML, or the clipboard — and instantly reshape it into a structured, multidimensional model you can pivot, filter, and calculate without rewriting logic.
In short, it takes the raw, flat data trapped in rows and columns and gives it the dimensions your business actually runs on—time, product, region, scenario, and more.
The clip below shows how you can easily import a Text File and turn it into a multidimensional model.
What is Data Import in Quantrix Modeler?
Data Import is a feature in the Quantrix Data menu that connects to external data sources and brings their contents directly into a Quantrix matrix.
The core idea is simple but powerful: you take a 2-dimensional data set and make it multidimensional. That single shift is what separates a fragile spreadsheet from a scalable model.
Which data sources can Quantrix Modeler import from?
The power of Data Import starts with reach. From a single menu, you can bring in two-dimensional data from virtually anywhere your business keeps it:
- Databases — connect directly to the systems that run your business
- Google Sheets & Salesforce — pull live data from the tools your teams already use
- Text, XML & clipboard — bring in files and exports in seconds
- Other Quantrix models — feed one model’s output into the next
Just drag and drop the fields you want, and Data Import does the heavy lifting. You can bring in exactly what you need, nothing more.
The real power: flat data becomes multidimensional
Here’s where Data Import goes from convenient to transformational. As your data comes in, you decide which fields become dimensions—time, product, region, scenario—and Quantrix instantly turns a flat, two-dimensional table into a rich, multidimensional model.
Why does that matter so much? Think of a flat spreadsheet as a single photograph: one fixed view of your business. A multidimensional model is a living, rotatable scene. The same data can be sliced by month, by product line, by market, or by scenario in seconds—no rebuilding, no rewriting formulas. Insights that were buried in endless rows and columns rise right to the surface.
That’s the difference between storing data and understanding it.
Why it changes the way you work
Always plan with fresh data
Refresh with a click. After you have established a Data Import connection, “Update” buttons will be available above your matrices. Alternatively, you can create Smart Buttons on canvases that offer the ability to update. This way you’re always planning with today’s reality, not last month’s export. For example, if you’ve connected to a Salesforce Opportunity report and new opportunities have been entered, the refresh button will add the new data into your model.
Build a connected data ecosystem
Data Import isn’t a one-way street. Paired with Quantrix’s export tools, it’s possible to share data back and forth. As a result, Quantrix can be utilized as your main business planning platform, or used as an integrated complementary tool – when gaps need to be filled.
